Scholarships
NESES started out as a way to teach youth about their home country. Many Salvadorans never make it out of their town to learn about where they live. After two years of study tours, it became apparent that the youth participants wanted and needed more. While the study tour focuses on opportunities and possibilities, education is crucial to the development of a whole human being.
The study tour gives a map of the world and the scholarship provides a vehicle to explore it. NESES realized that its main goal was to inspire young people to continue their learning and saw scholarships as the most practical way to help students reach their educational, professional, and personal goals. Thus, the scholarship program was born.
- Since 2004, 90 scholarships have been awarded
- Of those 90 scholarship students, over 60 have graduated from high school (several participants are still enrolled in high school)
- NESES has inspired 14 high school graduates to go on to university or vocational school and has been able to help seven of those students with partial scholarships

- The criteria for scholarships is:
- completing a NESES study tour
- maintaining a high standard of grades
- being recommended by the orphanage to go on to high school studies
- being accepted into a high school or university program
NESES collaborates with the orphanages so that the scholarship students can remain living at the orphanage while NESES covers their educational expenses.

Accountability is an important aspect of higher education and just as NESES is in contact with the students' schools, the students stay in contact with the NESES director in El Salvador, and create projects to benefit their communities.
All these accomplishments have been made possible through donations. 75% of all the money donated to NESES goes straight the annual study tour and scholarships. NESES considers donations as investments in the future of the exceptional Salvadoran youth. The return on these investments is demonstrated in the success and mentoring of the next generation of Salvadoran children.
