About

NESES became a non-profit organization in 2003 after five years as a family project of Joy and Ricardo Pocasangre. Over 250 youth have been served by NESES through the study tours and 60 scholarships have been awarded to study tour participants to further their education through high school, vocational and university programs.

Six different orphanages have benefited from NESES' programs and scholarships and several graduates have returned to serve their younger classmates, increasing continuity and community.

The "Lideres" program was started in 2006 by 15 enthusiastic former study tour participants from Santa Ana, who saw the value of what NESES shared with them. After that first group created events for the current tour, two additional cities, San Miguel and San Salvador, started their own "Lideres" groups.

NESES started out by giving study tours because the students in the orphanages did not have the opportunity to appreciate the great assets and beauty of their own country. Many teenagers saw El Salvador as a hopeless place that had nothing to offer them. The founders of NESES thought it was paramount to guide them, as parents might, to see the amazing, cultural richness of El Salvador for themselves.

After NESES started sharing its success of the study tours with others, interested supporters began offering scholarship money to qualified students. NESES created an application process that requires good academic performance and recommendations from teachers and caregivers.

"NESES gives me the opportunity to be part of the dream as well as changing children's lives in El Savlador. My function is to establish and maintain a communication channel between students, directors of the schools they attend, and the NESES administration."
